What is Bright Stock BS-150?
Bright stock BS-150 is a Group I base oil supplied by Synergysol Trading. BS 150 is the heavy bright stock blenders add when a solvent neutral cannot build enough film. Gear oils, marine lubricants, greases, and heavy industrial oils use it for that body.
Bright stock is the heavy residue cut, refined and dewaxed, then sold as a lubricant feedstock. Kinematic viscosity is 476.2 mm²/s at 40°C. The viscosity index is 95, the pour point is −6°C, sulfur is below 1.3 wt%, and furfural is below 5 ppm.
Order the grade as BS-150 or bright stock BS-150. SN-150 is the light solvent neutral, at 5.4–7 cSt at 100°C, and is a different base oil.
Applications
Synergysol Trading supplies bright stock BS-150 as the high-viscosity component in heavy mineral-oil formulas.
Automotive and industrial gear oils. Gear-oil formulas take BS-150 when the film has to be far heavier than an SN-500 solvent neutral.
Marine cylinder and system oils. Marine lubricants use bright stock to hold viscosity under load.
Grease manufacture. The mineral oil in a heavy grease is often bright stock BS-150.
Heavy circulating and process oils. Slow, heavily loaded equipment specifies this viscosity.
Engine-oil correction. A conventional engine-oil blend adds bright stock when the solvent neutral alone is too light.
