Base Oil SN-500

Heavy Group I solvent neutral for engine oils, gear oils, marine lubricants, and industrial blends.

What is Base Oil SN-500?

Base oil SN-500 is a heavy Group I solvent-neutral base oil supplied by Synergysol Trading. SN 500 is the heavy solvent neutral lubricant blenders use as the main mineral oil in conventional engine oils, gear oils, marine lubricants, and industrial circulating oils. The name places it above SN-150 and SN-350, and below bright stock BS-150.

API Group I is the solvent-refined category: viscosity index from 80 to 120, saturates below 90%, and sulfur above 0.03%. On this grade the viscosity index is 89. Kinematic viscosity is 85.8 mm²/s at 40°C and 9.5–11.2 cSt at 100°C. The Cleveland open-cup flash point is 240°C and the pour point is −6°C. Appearance is clear and bright, colourless to yellow.

Applications

Synergysol Trading supplies base oil SN-500 as the heavy Group I cut in conventional lubricant formulas.

Gasoline and diesel engine oils. Conventional engine-oil blends use SN-500 as the main heavy solvent neutral, then correct the viscosity with a lighter neutral or with bright stock.

Gear and transmission oils. SN-500 is the Group I base oil those formulas name in the heavy band.

Marine engine and system oils. Marine lubricants use the same heavy solvent neutral when the formula is built on Group I.

Industrial circulating oils. The blender builds the target viscosity from SN-500 when the duty sits in this band.

Grease. Grease manufacturers use SN-500 as the mineral-oil component.

Other grades in this range

These are other grades Synergysol Trading supplies. The figures in this section belong to those grades.

SN-150 is the light solvent neutral, at 5.4–7 cSt at 100°C. SN-350 sits between them. BS-150 is bright stock at 476.2 mm²/s at 40°C. Group II N500 is the hydroprocessed heavy neutral. Re-refined SN500 is the re-refined heavy grade.
