Group III
Base Oil Group III 6 cSt
Group III 6 cSt base oil for passenger-car and heavy-duty engine oils.
What is Base Oil Group III 6 cSt?
Group III 6 cSt base oil is the mid viscosity class supplied by Synergysol Trading. The name is the kinematic viscosity class at 100°C. In a passenger-car or heavy-duty engine oil it supplies the heavier portion of a Group III blend, next to a 4 cSt stock.
API Group III base oil requires a viscosity index of 120 or higher, saturates of at least 90%, and sulfur of 0.03% or below. Gear oils and industrial lubricants that specify this class use the same grade. Group II N230 is the mid Group II grade.
Applications
Synergysol Trading supplies Group III 6 cSt base oil for engine oils and industrial lubricants in the mid viscosity class.
Passenger-car engine oils. The 6 cSt class is the heavier Group III component beside 4 cSt.
Heavy-duty diesel engine oils. Diesel formulas that specify Group III use 6 cSt for the mid-to-heavy part of the blend.
Gear and transmission oils. Gear oils written on Group III name the 6 cSt class when the viscosity sits here.
Industrial lubricants. Industrial oils that specify a 6 cSt Group III base oil are filled from this grade.

Frequently asked questions
What is Group III 6 cSt used for?
Passenger-car and heavy-duty engine oils, gear oils, and industrial lubricants that specify a 6 cSt Group III base oil.
How is 6 cSt used with 4 cSt?
Engine-oil formulas blend the 4 cSt class with the 6 cSt class to set the finished viscosity. Each grade is supplied separately.
What does the grade name mean?
6 cSt is the commercial viscosity class at 100°C. The certificate states kinematic viscosity at 100°C of 5.8–6.2 mm²/s and viscosity index 130.
What are the published results for Group III 6 cSt?
Kinematic viscosity at 100°C is 5.8–6.2 mm²/s. Viscosity index is 130, flash point 220°C, pour point −15°C, sulfur 10 mg/kg, and water 50 mg/kg. Appearance is bright and clear.
